  i completely forgot about this place until today.

  i had an epiphany two das ago.

  Hello DD.

  Your story is very touching. If you can talk about all those things, then it IS a good sign.

  For your medicaments: do listen to your doctors advice. It may not be good for you to stop cold turkey, but make it clear to him that you do want to stop.

  I think your fathers violence wasnt totally related to the Borg, though maybe that didnt help.

  My own mother was particulaly violent towards me, even before the Borg era. She too, now says it was because she loved me. I think these kind of people suffer from their own sickness, and find a refuge worshipping a violent god. It kind of justifies there own behaviour.

  How to identify a JW from a distance

  much has apparently been said in recent years about how a "good" jw should be dressed and groomed, so as to be easily identified - even from a distance.. yesterday, while driving through town, i did see two people the distance:.

  - and certainly, by the way they were dressed, my suspicions were aroused.. - however, what confirmed their identity was not their dress and grooming.

  rather, as i drove up closer, i noticed both of them doing the "pioneer shuffle" up somebody's driveway:.

  hi, i am a catholic.

  i've never been a jw nor ever tried to become one but i know a number of former jws and one or two current/active jws.. i've been wondering why active jws are so anti-catholic; is it part of the teaching they receive in the watchtower?.

  Welcome asprin.

  In the early days, Russell and others ATTACKED the Catholic church in particular, though all "organised" religion was also the target of his wrathful public discources. The feelings held for the Catholic Church ( one could say the hate), continued through the decades, and maybe down until today. I haven't read any WT publications for 15 years, but a guess that their remarks towards the church are the same.

  I think it would be fair to say that most JWs are ex-catholics. (large numbers in strong Catholic countries)

  this is very difficult to write (forgive me for any spelling mistake, i am not a native english speaker).. i cannot tell my complete story on this board - i eventually will, once i have broken the last "link in the chain" that has kept me captive to the borg.

  i can't tell my story, because.....basically i will be known.....as a more or less "famous" jw..... i have been lurking this site for many years, wrote here under another name - this eventually was found out and i had to do "damage containment".

  i had to "go back" and tow the party line....all my family (extended and close) are witnesses, all my "friends" and even work & business relationships are jw.

  Hi Intel, and welcome to the board.

  It seems that you are emotionally worn out yourself.

  I would suggest that, first of all, you address that problem, in seeking professional help for you, and do that in secret.

  Then when you are stronger yourself, you can deal with the rest.

  A professional councellor will help you first, and then will be able to give you advice about how to deal with your wife, exiting the borg etc.

  Good luck, and remember, there IS a solution. You WILL feel better soon.

  I remember when smoking was frowned upon, but you couldn't be DFd.

  I wonder if one day, they'll do the same for the internet?

  I'm sure they could find a scriptural principle.

  THE INTERNET - The Means For A Global Revolution?

  we recently had a tour here in new zealand from the musical legend herbie hancock.

  during the tour he engaged in a media interview where he expressed himself about the effects of the internet on the global community.. he spoke with intelligence and refreshing optimism about the potential of the internet and the opportunities it opens up for the world community.. in short (and i'm going only from memory here), he expressed how he felt the drawing together of individuals through the internet, and the opportunity for large groups of people to speak with a combined voice, had the capacity to initiate major change.

  he highlighted the further potential for large, instantaneous, interest groups, to both highlight issues and bring pressure on world leaders to initiate change.. a recent example is the petitioning of ugandan govt officials regarding the proposed harsh anti-gay legislation being presented before the ugandan parliament.

  Many mainstream TV news programmes are inviting public comment which is immediately relayed to the watching audience.

  In my country too.

  I'd never considered this channel as a real threat to the Borg, but "apostates" having

  their say on national/international TV could be "far reaching".

  I think that internet has also played an important role in events throughout the Arab world.

  Are more long standing JW's leaving?

  at one time, it seemed that the majority of those leaving, were young ones brought up in the cult.. from what i can see now (at least on here), there seems to be a high number of 20+ baptised members years leaving.. has this always been the case?

  it might be i just didn't notice from my parochial view from the kingdom hall!.

  or are there really more long standing jw's leaving now, than ever before?.

  and they'll turn that around as "proof" that we REALLY are so very very close.
